Three Little Pigs Some from the Moon, Some from the Sun
Judge Duffy and the Devil

Margot Zemach was born on November 30th, 1931. As a young child, she drew to keep herself company and to make herself and others laugh. She attended art school with the intention of becoming "an artist of social significance," but it soon became clear that she was destined to become a children's book illustrator. She began her professional career in 1959 by illustrating stories written by her husband, Harve. They collaborated on 13 books including Duffy and the Devil, which won a Caldecott Medal in 1974. (Visit the original art from Duffy at the Kerlan Collection at the University of Minnesota.) She illustrated over 40 books in her lifetime and died in 1989 of Lou Gehrig's disease. Her last book was Some From the Moon and Some From the Sun, a collection of well-known and timeless verse.
