Gail Carson Levine Two Princesses of Bamarre
Ella Enchanted Dave at Night
As a child, one of Gail Carson Levine's favorite genres was fairy tales. Born on September 8th, it's no surprise that in her writing for young people she uses fairy tales and then adds a twist. A departure from this is her historical novel Dave at Night, for which she used her father's own experiences of growing up in a Hebrew orphanage during the 1920s. Both she and her sister were encouraged by their parents to find their voice in the arts with the result that Ms. Levine's sister paints and she writes.
