James Howe was born on August 2nd and raised in New York. He graduated from Boston University, majoring in theatre arts, and went on to pursue a career in acting. He appeared in commercials, directed plays, and worked as a literary agent for playwrights before deciding that he actually enjoyed writing the most. His late wife Deborah, and the many movie versions of Dracula from the '70s, inspired him to write Bunnicula. The popular book about a vampire rabbit became a series of six books that launched his career as a children's book author. His acting career had developed his mastery of dramatic timing and an understanding of how to build suspense. James has gone on to write over fifty books for children including another series featuring Sebastian Barth, a 13-year-old sleuth.
